About Cat-Ears / AirStreamz
As avid cyclists, we found the frequent and sometimes constant drone of wind noise annoying and potentially dangerous. Wind noise masks surrounding sounds and at moderate speeds can exceed 85 decibels. Longer-term exposure to excessive wind noise can impact hearing. As a result, we started investigating solutions to reduce wind noise. After considerable 'trial and error' testing, we introduced the first generation of Cat-Ears products in 2012.
Inspired by Nature
The Cat-Ears concept was inspired by the fine hairs protecting the outer ears of certain animals, like cats, together with the thinner fur of the preauricular region immediately ahead of the ear. This natural arrangement inspired our exploration of porous, fiber-based materials designed to gently modify turbulent airflow before it reaches the ear.

Validated by Physics
Today, the concept is supported by well-established principles of fluid mechanics (A. Kolmogorov, M. Howe, et al.).
